The Melbourne Cup horse race was first run in 1861 and won by a horse named "Archer". The race is held on the first Tuesday in November.
Everyone thinks it was Whitcomb Judson who invented the zipper (or zip)but it was really Elias Howe. Elias was so busy inventing the sewing machine that he didn't get around to selling his zipper invention which he called a "clothing closure".
