Currently the only known location of this species can be found on Bernier Island. There is a possibility that there are other locations where there is a population; however scientists have not been able to successfully locate any.

The burrowing bettong is a nocturnal, vulnerable species. Both humans and predators are the main contributors to the decline of the burrowing bettong. The burrowing bettong resides in Australia and the islands of Barrow, Bernier, and Dorre. There are no natural predators on Barrow Island, but the population of burrowing bettongs on Barrow Island is about 5,000 animals, and this is the only secure population. “Boodie” and “Rat Kangaroo” are other common names for the burrowing bettong. There are efforts being made to bring the species onto the mainland of Australia.

There is more of a population in Tasmania, in Victoria the only known population can be found in the western basalt plains. Over one hundred years ago the eastern barred bandicoot lived in southern Australia. Unfortunately the last known sighting in that region was in 1893. Domestic animals such as cat and dogs have led to the endangerment of the eastern barred bandicoot as well as the clearing of the species natural habitat by humans. The eastern barred bandicoot is a nocturnal marsupial.

Found from the coast of New South Wales to the Blue Mountains the Blue Mountains Tree Frog is a beautifully coloured frog.  With a base colour of medium brown it has a dark line from its nose to its stomach with a lighter line above it.  These frogs also have bright green spots on their head and limbs as well as orange and red marks on their arms and legs making them quite a sight to see.  They are wonderful jumpers and even great swimmers although they do not have webbed feet like other frogs.

Tasmanian Pademelons (animals similar to kangaroos) live in woodsy areas like rain forests close to open spaces where they can find food.  Since it is a nocturnal animal the Tasmanian Pademelon will hide and rest during the day and come out at night to feed on grass, small shrubs and seedlings. It is prey to the well known Tasmanian devil and some eagles.

The green tree frog has become popular over the recent years, with many people deciding to keep these as pets and being sold at pet stores. They are found throughout Queensland and go down as far as the top of South Australia. They live in trees or in rocky crevices, and close to a source of water. The males range in sizes from 65-75 mm and the females rang from 60-110 mm. They breed in the warmer months, between November and February and lay between 500-2000 eggs on the waters surface.


A mother hen turns over her egg about 50 times each day.

The genus name Alangium comes from the Tamil name Alangi. This outstanding shrub can become a small, wide-spreading tree of considerable beauty at maturity.

The ghost bat is present in Northern Australia, Western Australia, Queensland, and the Northern Territory. Ghost bats are classified as “vulnerable” due to the destruction of caves, human disturbance by visiting roosts in caves, and the loss of prey (which is due to a loss of they prey’s habitat). It is estimated that there are only 5,000 ghost bats left. The common name “ghost bat” is attributed to the bat’s white appearance when looking as it flies over head. Natural predators of the ghost bat are few. Ghost bats can be heard making excited twittering noises.

Queen termites are the longest living insects. They can live for 50 years.

 The largest native Australian worm is the giant Gippsland earthworm.  It normally has a length of about 2 to 3 meters, (6.5 to 10 feet),  however the longest worm on record was 4 m, (13 feet), long.  Their skin is a pinkish-gray color and the head is a deep purple.  They live underground in red, gray or blue clay under banks of streams. They need water to live so they never really leave their moist underground maze.  If you stomp the ground above them you will be able to hear a gurgling sound coming from under you.

Sweet Indrajao is a small tree with a light gray, scaly smooth bark. Native to India and Burma, the white flowers may appear like snow flakes on a tree from a distance.

They are small animals, with rounded ears and a masked dark fur face, with a long tail used for balance.The Tree Kangaroo is a nocturnal animal, and they stay in trees for the majority of their life. The Indian Jujube Tree is a small tree that can occasionly reach the height of 24 m.

Rainbow Lorikeet (oz)-This most striking coloured and noisy bird is one of 328 species of parrots found and 1 of 21 subspecies of Lorikeets found over the south west Pacific. Its scientific name is Trichoglossus haematodus .

The kookaburra is the largest kingfisher. The laughing kookaburra has a short thick body with a very large head with a dark eye streak. Their colourings are mainly brown with black markings on top with a creamy whitw underbelly and head, and a blue patch on their wings. They are famous for their laughing calls which usually occur at dawn and dusk and is in fact the kookaburra "marking out" its territory . They are found through out eastern Australia from the northern tip of Queensland right down to Tasmania. They have also been introduced to the southern part of Western Australia They frequent open forests and Eucalypt bushland.

Oystercatchers are birds found worldwide, except in Antarctica. Two species are found in Australian shorelines- The Pied and The Sooty. They eat mussels and other crustaceans.

The Jana Gana Mana was composed by Shri Rabindranath Tagore and first sung at the Calcutta session of the Indian National Congress on December 27th, 1911. It was adopted as the National Anthem of India on 24th January, 1950 by the Constituent Assembly. The first stanza( out of five stanzas) of the song forms the National Anthem.

Thyacline- tasmanian wolf/ tasmanian tiger.It is generally agreed that this carnivorous (meat eating) marsupial is extinct, though occasionally there is local unconfirmed sightings in its "former" wild habitat of Tasmania. The thylacine is the shape and size of a big dog (especially like a dog in forequarters and head) , and observation suggestion that it acted in a very dog like manner (ie running, sitting, sun baking, etc) )The base colour of the animal was brownish (fawn through to dark brown) with a cream coloured belly. One very unique aspect was that its jaw could open extremely wide. Its tail was very straight more like a thin Kangaroos tail and did not wag like a dogs. 

A grizzly bear can run up to about forty miles per hour.

India used to be well known for spices like cinnamon.

They are found in the forested eastern areas of Australia ( Queensland - N. Central Victoria) where the rainfall is high.

Found in the Indian Botanical Gardens, the Great Banyan was the widest tree in the world (its branches) The Great Banyan is over 250 years old and in terms of how widespread it is the biggest tree in India. It looks more like a forest than one tree.

In Australia, Dugongs (sea cows) swim in the shallow coastal waters of northern Australia where they find protection from large waves and storms. Dugongs surface only to breathe, and never come on to land. They like to live in large herds, but due to small numbers are often now found in smaller "family" groups of between 1 and 3 Dugongs .
In India, Black Panther is a symbol of the feminine, power and protection. She is Mother, power of the night and dark of the moon. She gives understanding and rids fears.

The Echidna found in Australia is the Short-beaked Echidna and along with the Platypus are the only members of the monotreme family (which are Mammals that lay eggs and produces milk for its young). There is normally 3 options open to an Echidna when it feels threatened
1) Run away on its short stubby legs if on a hard surface such as a road or rocks.
2) Curl itself into a ball protecting its softer underbelly, and only showing sharp spines to its threat.
3) Burrows down below the surface of the soil showing only its spines along its back, and holding on below the surface with its claws thus resisting being pulled out of the ground .
If Antarctica's ice would melt the oceans would rise about 60 meters.6

Frilled Lizard-This sun-loving lizard (Frilled Lizard) is the reptile emblem of Australia, depicted on our now defunct two-cent coin .This reptile is part of the Dragon family, a sub-species of Lizards. They are usually active during the day and move very fast on their two hind legs .The frill normally lies in folds around the shoulders and neck and is "activated" by the lizard when frightened by opening its mouth wide .
The only animal, apart from a human, that can get a sunburn is a pig.
The Asiatic Lion (Panthera leo persica) is a subspecies of the lion which survives today only in India where it is also known as the Indian lion. They once ranged from the Mediterranean to India, covering most of Southwest Asia, and hence it is also known as the Persian lion. The current wild population consists of 250-350 individuals restricted to the Gir Forest in the state of Gujarat, India.

The Superb lyrebird is one of two species of Lyrebird found in Australia, the other being the Albert's lyrebird. Lyrebirds are shy, wary birds. When seen they are normally just a blur as they run and dodge rapidly through the dense forest. Their wings aid them in running and jumping up into branches and onto rocks ,etc and then gliding back down again and though they seldom fly they do roost in low trees at night. They are magnificent mimickers of other birds and noises. Often in the morning you may think you are surrounded by a multitude of bird species, to find out you have been fooled by a lyrebird. Car noises, chainsaws, dogs and other noises are no problem for this excellent imitator .

The Australian Pelican (Pelecanus conspicillatus) is found all around Australia and is the biggest of the 8 species of Pelicans found worldwide.
Indian black bears are omnivorous. Their diet depends upon the season as well as the availability of food. The fall season is the time for having acorns, chestnuts, walnuts, and other fatty food. In spring season, they survive on a diet of bamboo, raspberry, hydrangea, and other plants, along with rodent's caches of acorns. Summer season is perfect for having raspberries, cherries, grasses and ants.

Flying Foxes are a type of Bat, which in turn is a type of mammal.(Mammals being animals that feed their young on milk) Bats are the only mammal that truly fly. Flying foxes are a type of "mega-bat" that live on fruit and nectar and navigate by sight and smell, not "radar"( detecting distance objects using radio waves) like "Micro-bats". There are 7 species of flying foxes in Australia. Grey-headed Flying Fox is Australia's largest bat (also one of the most common) and its scientific name is Pteropus poliocephalus.

Yabbies, are a type of inland freshwater crayfish found in Australia. They are a crustacean. Scientific name is "Cherax destructor". They live in dams, waterholes, billabongs, creeks, etc- (inland "still" waters) of mainland Australia. Originally they were native to the Darling and Murray river. They house themselves in small tunnels that they dig into the sides of the waterhole, dam etc .
The panda's diet consists of about 95% bamboo.
The Big Four are the most venomous snakes in India.

Crown of Thorns Seastars are not just found in Australia, but in Australia they are found on the Great Barrier Reef .These echinoderms (star shaped animals) eat all live coral in their path, and are drastically reducing the size of Australia's Great Barrier Reef. The brown snake is approximately 1.5 metres long, and is one of Australia's more deadly creatures. They have venom which can cause death to humans relatively quickly if left untreated. Brown snakes up to 2.3 metres have been recorded in Australia.

The Indian rhinoceros  has one horn, and it has skin with loose folds which make it appear armored. A single One -Horned Rhino are about 1.5 to 1.8 m tall. The female Indian rhino weighs 1600 kg, male: 2200 kg .
