The Lace Monitor or common goanna (Oz) is a very large lizard that can grow up to two metres long. They eat insects, reptiles or even small mammals. Lace Monitors (or Goannas) are usually dark in colour with a tint of blue, and have white-yellowish scales that form lines or spots.
Sweet Indrajao is a small tree with a light gray, scaly smooth bark. Native to India and Burma, the white flowers may appear like snow flakes on a tree from a distance.

The Lumholtz Tree Kangaroo is found only in Queensland. They are small animals, with rounded ears and a masked dark fur face, with a long tail used for balance.The Tree Kangaroo is a nocturnal animal, and they stay in trees for the majority of their life. They do venture to the ground to find another tree to inhabit. The Tree Kangaroo can leap up to 15 metres to another tree! The Tree Kangaroo feeds on leaves, fruits and other such food sources. They have the ability to jump from tree to tree, and stick to trees very well with the help of their cushioned feet.
Electric eels produce enough energy in one shock to light up every room in an average three bedroom house.

The carpentarian antechinus is an endangered marsupial located in Australia, the Northern Territory and Queensland. This species was originally found in 1905, however only one animal was discovered. Another carpentarian antechinus was not observed until 1967.This species measures about 85mm(!) (including its head and body) with it’s tail measuring about 69mm.

he brown snake is approximately 1.5 metres long, and is one of Australia's more deadly creatures. They have venom which can cause death to humans relatively quickly if left untreated. Brown snakes up to 2.3 metres have been recorded in Australia. They feed on small creatures, such as mice and rats, small birds, lizards or even other snakes. These snakes are found in Eastern Australia, however they are not found in Tasmania. 


Indian Ash Tree is a  tree, growing up to 14 m tall. Branches are covered with starry hairs.26

The world's largest carnivorous animal is the Alaskan brown bear.

The Red Bellied Black Snake is a dangerous snake species found in Australia. It is a red bellied snake, and black on top, hence the name. It inhabits mainly the east coast of Australia, close to a source of water. They grow up to 1.5 metres. The bite of a red bellied black snake is very dangerous. The Red Bellied Black Snake can give birth to up to 40 live snakes at one time.

The Northern Territory is known to have a significant population of orange leaf-nosed bats. Orange leaf-nosed bats have orange fur, a distinctly leafed-nose, and ears that are sort and pointy. This species averages 9g in weight and a 50mm head and body measurement. There is no tail present.


The ylang-ylang (pronounced ee-lang ee-lang) is a large tree, to 10-15 m tall, which produces highly fragrant flowers. It is native to India-Malaysia. Leaves are dark green, up to 20 cm (8 in) in length.

Giraffes are the only animals born with horns. Both males and females are born with bony knobs on the forehead.


Yellow-footed Rock Wallaby-This Australian marsupial has to be the prettiest wallaby.  It can be recognized by its gray-brown fur, lighter colored chest, orange to yellow limbs and tail, a long dark stripe from the ears to the shoulders and white stripes on its cheeks and yellow behind the ears.  It lives on rocky terrain near vegetation in South Australia, parts of New South Wales and Queensland.

The Irukandji (Carukua barnesi) inhabits Northen Australian waters. This is a deadly jellyfish, which is only 2.5 centimetres, which makes it very hard to spot in the water. This is a species of jellyfish which has become known about in recent years, due to deaths of swimmers in Australia.


The Pongam Tree is known as one of the richest and brightest trees in India. It's scientific name is Pongamia Pinnata.

Blue Bottles are Oz jellyfish.Blue Bottles are much less dangerous than some other jellyfish but they can give a swimmer a bad sting if the swimmer accidentally touches them.

Rainbow Lorikeet (oz)-This most striking coloured and noisy bird is one of 328 species of parrots found and 1 of 21 subspecies of Lorikeets found over the south west Pacific. Its scientific name is Trichoglossus haematodus .

The kookaburra is the largest kingfisher. The laughing kookaburra has a short thick body with a very large head with a dark eye streak. Their colourings are mainly brown with black markings on top with a creamy whitw underbelly and head, and a blue patch on their wings. They are famous for their laughing calls which usually occur at dawn and dusk and is in fact the kookaburra "marking out" its territory . They are found through out eastern Australia from the northern tip of Queensland right down to Tasmania. They have also been introduced to the southern part of Western Australia They frequent open forests and Eucalypt bushland.

Did you know the people of the Stone Age played bone flutes?

Oystercatchers are birds found worldwide, except in Antarctica. Two species are found in Australian shorelines- The Pied and The Sooty. They eat mussels and other crustaceans.

The Jana Gana Mana was composed by Shri Rabindranath Tagore and first sung at the Calcutta session of the Indian National Congress on December 27th, 1911. It was adopted as the National Anthem of India on 24th January, 1950 by the Constituent Assembly. The first stanza( out of five stanzas) of the song forms the National Anthem.

The blue whale's heart is as big as a car, and tongue as big as an elephant!

Often referred to as a Moloch (another name for Devil) the Thorny Devil is a slow moving harmless reptile When it walks it lifts its tail moving slowly and jerkily. Thorny devils are found throughout out Australia's interior desert, mostly on sandy soils.

Little blue penguins of Australia are only around 1kg! They are about 16cm in length.

Rabbits like to eat liquorice.

Cattle used to be the most important animal for Indian people. They were considered sacred so noone ate them. But they were used to make milk, cheese and yoghurt and also for pulling carts.

A pademelon is a kangaroo like animal. One special feature is that it makes tracks or "runways" in the ground.

An egg contains all the vitamins except Vitamin C.

The red kangaroo is the largest of nearl 60 kangaroo species. It lives in the desert areas of Australia.

Woodpeckers have the longest tongues among birds.

In Northern India, people ate mainly wheat, cooked in different ways. But in Southern India, people ate mostly rice. So those were the main plants grown there.

Australian giant cuttlefish is by far the biggest cuttlefish. It is a solitary creature and can be up to 1m in length and weigh up to 3 kg.

Frogs drink and breathe through their skin.

Thyacline- tasmanian wolf/ tasmanian tiger.It is generally agreed that this carnivorous (meat eating) marsupial is extinct, though occasionally there is local unconfirmed sightings in its "former" wild habitat of Tasmania. The thylacine is the shape and size of a big dog (especially like a dog in forequarters and head) , and observation suggestion that it acted in a very dog like manner (ie running, sitting, sun baking, etc) )The base colour of the animal was brownish (fawn through to dark brown) with a cream coloured belly. One very unique aspect was that its jaw could open extremely wide. Its tail was very straight more like a thin Kangaroos tail and did not wag like a dogs. 

A grizzly bear can run up to about forty miles per hour.

India used to be well known for spices like cinnamon.

About 8 inches long the Turquoisine Grass Parrot has a blue head , green upper parts and bright yellow under parts. The female Turquoisine Grass Parrot is not so brightly coloured as the males . They are found in the forested eastern areas of Australia ( Queensland - N. Central Victoria) where the rainfall is high.

Found in the Indian Botanical Gardens, the Great Banyan was the widest tree in the world (its branches) The Great Banyan is over 250 years old and in terms of how widespread it is the biggest tree in India. It looks more like a forest than one tree.

In Australia, Dugongs (sea cows) swim in the shallow coastal waters of northern Australia where they find protection from large waves and storms. Dugongs surface only to breathe, and never come on to land. They like to live in large herds, but due to small numbers are often now found in smaller "family" groups of between 1 and 3 Dugongs .
In India, Black Panther is a symbol of the feminine, power and protection. She is Mother, power of the night and dark of the moon. She gives understanding and rids fears.
A crocodile can't stick its tongue out.

The Echidna found in Australia is the Short-beaked Echidna and along with the Platypus are the only members of the monotreme family (which are Mammals that lay eggs and produces milk for its young). There is normally 3 options open to an Echidna when it feels threatened
1) Run away on its short stubby legs if on a hard surface such as a road or rocks.
2) Curl itself into a ball protecting its softer underbelly, and only showing sharp spines to its threat.
3) Burrows down below the surface of the soil showing only its spines along its back, and holding on below the surface with its claws thus resisting being pulled out of the ground .
If Antarctica's ice would melt the oceans would rise about 60 meters.6

Frilled Lizard-This sun-loving lizard (Frilled Lizard) is the reptile emblem of Australia, depicted on our now defunct two-cent coin .This reptile is part of the Dragon family, a sub-species of Lizards. They are usually active during the day and move very fast on their two hind legs .The frill normally lies in folds around the shoulders and neck and is "activated" by the lizard when frightened by opening its mouth wide .
The only animal, apart from a human, that can get a sunburn is a pig.
The Asiatic Lion (Panthera leo persica) is a subspecies of the lion which survives today only in India where it is also known as the Indian lion. They once ranged from the Mediterranean to India, covering most of Southwest Asia, and hence it is also known as the Persian lion. The current wild population consists of 250-350 individuals restricted to the Gir Forest in the state of Gujarat, India.

The total weight of all the worlds ants is more than the total weight of all the people.
The Superb lyrebird is one of two species of Lyrebird found in Australia, the other being the Albert's lyrebird. Lyrebirds are shy, wary birds. When seen they are normally just a blur as they run and dodge rapidly through the dense forest. Their wings aid them in running and jumping up into branches and onto rocks ,etc and then gliding back down again and though they seldom fly they do roost in low trees at night. They are magnificent mimickers of other birds and noises. Often in the morning you may think you are surrounded by a multitude of bird species, to find out you have been fooled by a lyrebird. Car noises, chainsaws, dogs and other noises are no problem for this excellent imitator .

There are almost 200 species of monkeys.
The Australian Pelican (Pelecanus conspicillatus) is found all around Australia and is the biggest of the 8 species of Pelicans found worldwide.
Indian black bears are omnivorous. Their diet depends upon the season as well as the availability of food. The fall season is the time for having acorns, chestnuts, walnuts, and other fatty food. In spring season, they survive on a diet of bamboo, raspberry, hydrangea, and other plants, along with rodent's caches of acorns. Summer season is perfect for having raspberries, cherries, grasses and ants.

The Great Salt Lake is after the Dead Sea the second saltiest water-body in the world.
Flying Foxes are a type of Bat, which in turn is a type of mammal.(Mammals being animals that feed their young on milk) Bats are the only mammal that truly fly. Flying foxes are a type of "mega-bat" that live on fruit and nectar and navigate by sight and smell, not "radar"( detecting distance objects using radio waves) like "Micro-bats". There are 7 species of flying foxes in Australia. Grey-headed Flying Fox is Australia's largest bat (also one of the most common) and its scientific name is Pteropus poliocephalus.
